Trustee Jana Greer to Receive Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree
During Southwestern’s 26th Annual Awards Recognition Reception, the Southwestern Board of Trustees will confer an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree on Jana Waring Greer, a member of the board for more than 25 years.
Ms. Greer has played a key role in the development of Southwestern as a dedicated trustee and generous benefactor. Her affiliation with the law school began in 1987 when she was named to the Board of Visitors. The following year, she was elected to the Southwestern Board of Trustees, and soon thereafter was appointed Chair of the Institutional Advancement Committee and member of the Executive Committee. She also served on the Southwestern-Drucker Advisory Board.¬†Her vision and business acumen have been pivotal in the enhancement of Southwestern’s academic programs and faculty, development of strategic partnerships, expansion of the campus, and leadership of related fund raising campaigns.
Ms. Greer is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Individual and Group Retirement division of American International Group, Inc. (AIG), where she has direct responsibility for AIG’s domestic retirement savings businesses with assets under management of more than $200 billion. She began her career in 1974 with an AIG Life and Retirement predecessor company, which later became SunAmerica. During her tenure with the company, she took on increasingly responsible roles including Vice President, Corporate Communications and Investor Relations, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, SunAmerica Inc., and President and Chief Executive Officer of SunAmerica Retirement Markets.
